Smile Again with Stability: Snap-In Dentures for a Comfortable, Affordable, and Secure Tooth Replacement—All Under One Roof!
Experience the transformation with Snap-In Overdentures—secure, removable teeth that restore your smile, comfort, and confidence.
What are Snap-In Dentures
Snap-in dentures, also called implant-retained dentures or overdentures, are a reliable tooth replacement option for patients with missing teeth. This solution uses 2 to 4 dental implants to securely anchor a custom-made denture, offering more stability than traditional dentures. Unlike regular dentures, snap-in dentures lock into place—improving chewing, speaking, and overall comfort. They are removable for easy cleaning but don’t slip or shift during the day. Often used for lower and upper arches, snap-in dentures provide a cost-effective alternative to full-arch implant bridges while restoring a confident, natural-looking smile.

What are the limitations of Snap-in dentures?
While implant overdentures (snap-in dentures) are a great option for many patients, they do have some limitations compared to All-on-X dental implants:
Lower chewing efficiency: Snap-in dentures rely on both gum and implant support, which makes them less stable than fully fixed options like All-on-X.
Minor movement: Even with a great fit, some movement during chewing is expected because the denture isn’t completely fixed in place.
Food trapping: Due to the design and small movements, food can sometimes get underneath the denture.
Material durability: Snap-in dentures are made of acrylic (PMMA), which is not as strong as the zirconia used in fixed All-on-X bridges. While fractures are extremely rare, they can happen over time.
Despite these drawbacks, snap-in dentures remain a reliable, cost-effective solution for many patients who aren’t ready for full-arch fixed implants.

Appointment 1
Consultation

Free consultation and 3D imaging (CBCT scan). We’ll review your needs, discuss available treatment options, and create a customized plan just for you.
Appointment 2
Work up

During this visit, we’ll complete your treatment consent forms, review financial arrangements, take intraoral scans and pre-operative photographs, and provide you with detailed pre-op instructions. If everything is in place financially and you’re ready to move forward, we can combine this with your first visit—so you can choose your surgery date without delay.
Appointment 3
Surgery Day

On your surgery day, any remaining teeth will be gently removed, and any infection will be thoroughly cleaned out. We’ll then place 2 to 4 dental implants to support your denture. You’ll receive a temporary set of dentures (immediate dentures) on the same day as your surgery. Please note that these dentures may feel loose at first due to swelling and tissue changes during the healing process. A reline is typically done about three weeks after surgery to improve the fit and comfort.
We’ll see you for a 1-week follow-up visit to make adjustments.
Appointment 4 (1 week after surgery)
1-Week Follow-Up Visit

On this visit, we do a CBCT scan to obtain a baseline of bone around the implants. We check the healing and we adjust any areas in the denture that could be causing soreness in your gums.

Frequently Asked Questions
How are snap-in dentures different from traditional dentures?
Traditional dentures rest on the gums and can shift or slip during eating or speaking. Snap-in dentures are anchored to implants, which keeps them firmly in place. This means less movement, better fit, and improved confidence when talking or eating. They also reduce gum irritation and the need for denture adhesives.
Are snap-in dentures permanent?
Snap-in dentures are removable by the patient for daily cleaning, but they attach securely to permanent implants. This offers the best of both worlds—strong, reliable support during the day and easy removal at night or for cleaning.
How many implants are needed for snap-in dentures?
Most patients need two to four implants per arch (upper or lower) to support snap-in dentures. The exact number depends on bone quality, anatomy, and treatment goals. Our team at Richmond Implant & Smile Studio will evaluate your case to create a personalized plan.
Are snap-in dentures comfortable?
Yes. Snap-in dentures are significantly more comfortable than traditional dentures. They reduce pressure on the gums, minimize sore spots, and stay in place while you talk, smile, or eat. Most patients report a major improvement in comfort and overall satisfaction.
Can I eat normally with snap-in dentures?
Absolutely. Snap-in dentures allow you to enjoy a wider variety of foods compared to traditional dentures. Chewing is more efficient and stable, especially for harder or chewier foods. While there may be a short adjustment period, most patients regain strong chewing function.
Do snap-in dentures look natural?

Yes. Our custom snap-in dentures are crafted using high-quality, lifelike materials to closely mimic the appearance of natural teeth and gums. The result is a confident, natural-looking smile designed to suit your facial features.
How long do snap-in dentures last?
With proper care, the dental implants that support the denture can last a lifetime. The snap-in denture itself may last 5 to 10 years before needing a replacement or adjustment due to wear and changes in your mouth.
How do I clean and maintain snap-in dentures?
Snap-in dentures should be removed daily for cleaning. Use a soft toothbrush or denture brush to clean the denture and gently brush your gums and implant abutments. We recommend routine (6 months) check-ups to ensure the attachments stay functional and secure.
Am I a candidate for snap-in dentures?
If you’re missing teeth and have adequate bone in your jaw, you may be a great candidate for snap-in dentures. Even patients with some bone loss may qualify after bone grafting or other treatments. Schedule a consultation at Richmond Implant & Smile Studio to learn more.
Can I Get Snap-in Dentures If I Smoke?
Smoking does not automatically disqualify you from receiving Implants for Snap-in Dentures, but it does increase the risk of complications.
Nicotine restricts blood flow and slows healing, which can interfere with implant integration and increase the chances of implant failure, infection, or gum issues. Patients who smoke may also experience longer recovery times and reduced long-term success rates.
If you’re not willing to quit, we’ll evaluate your case carefully with a full medical and dental assessment. In some cases, smokers can still be candidates—but extra precautions may be needed, and you should be fully informed about the risks. I personally treated many smoking patients and I haven’t seen a increased failures in smokers, however, we can never say never.
For the best possible outcome, we strongly recommend quitting or reducing smoking before and after your implant surgery.
How experienced is the dentist placing my dental implants?
I’ve placed over 1,000 dental implants throughout my career—but experience is just one part of the equation. What truly matters is passion. I love what I do, and nothing is more rewarding than transforming someone’s life through their smile. Here’s an example of a recent implant placement for a snap-in denture. Take a look and judge for yourself. – Dr. Ammoun
